The White House restaurant is defined by salt, sea and good food, as much as it is by history, heart warming hospitality and the island of Corfu. Imagine yourself bathing in the sunlight, listening to the waves’ calm melody whilst you awaken your sense of taste with our fresh seafood delicacies and local white wine. The White House Restaurant quite literally sits on the water’s edge overlooking Kalami Bay on the north east coast of Corfu. It is the lower ground level of the world famous White House, the Corfu residence of author, Lawrence Durrell. “We are committed to providing fine dining, we maintain an extensive wine cellar and offer the highest quality service”.
Our philosophy is all about using fresh local produce of the finest quality. This means that our menu is adjusted seasonally. Many of our dishes are based on traditional Corfiot recipes, handed down by the previous generations. Many of The White House dishes were particular favourites of the Durrells, thereby preserving our link with the rich history of the area.“Fish, caught daily from our own boat, seasonal vegetables and locally reared organic meat and poultry form the basis of all our dishes. To these we add expertise and love.”

The first greek chef to ever be awarded with a Michelin star, Lefteris Lazarou is known for his creative cooking and seafood dishes. Born and raised in Piraeus, following this course of life was always meant for him. The turning-point in his career was the time he spent on boats cooking for people of different cultures, managing to customize Greek cuisine to fit their particular taste and nutritional habits. He has traveled to many different countries and was initiated to multiple national cuisines. During the past few years, Lefteris Lazarou has visited Argentina, Japan, U.S.A., as well as many European capitals in order to contribute to the promotion of Greek cuisine. In the United States of America he taught the Greek Cuisine in the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). In 2002 Lefteris Lazarou and his restaurant was awarded a Michelin Star, making him a worthy member of the international chef elite.

We went twice. Great peaceful atmosphere. First we sat in the bar one evening on comfy bean bags watching the sun go down looking at Albania across the sea. We then decided to go back on our final evening for a meal and the food was superb. The ritsina was served in a fab little bottle. We ordered some when we got home! You must go! This is where the Durrells lived and you’ll see why.
